Cloud Services: The Future is Now … and Growing Fast

April 7, 2014 by Eric Schlissel

Cloud services are not equal and certainly, do not respond to the same level of performance. Chances are that you have been using the cloud if you do any online banking or routinely tweet or join the commentary at a group on LinkedIn. If you are new to cloud service or outsourcing tasks, you must know you are not alone.

Enhancement to Expansion

Initially, cloud services were one-size-fits-all and had one name: cloud computing. However, the next generation of those cloud services has unique applications, which means that some of them might not be best for you and your business. The main concern is education for business owners about the cloud service best for their business.

Still, the biggest concern is saving on big ticket purchases that will help to preserve the capital asset budget. The cloud services available then were these three:

• Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS)

• Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS)

• Storage-as-a-Service (SaaS)

Since that time, more emerging cloud services are now on offer. You may want to get to the cloud for quick and convenient access to data, to break free of the many intrusive upgrades, for security and stability, predictable monthly service fees and the introduction to smartphone and tablet PC services. The new services for your choosing include, but are not limited to, these additional services:

• DataCenter-as-a-Service (DCaaS)

• DataBase-as-a-Service (DBaaS)

• DisasterRecovery-as-a-Service (DRaaS)

• Marketplace-as-a-Service (MaaS)

• Security-as-a-Service (SECaaS)

Cloud Services Enhancement

This enhancement of cloud services allows the user to search and test various resources for the best fit for their business. Demands fluctuate significantly with web applications and it is prudent to make those applications as flexible as possible to adapt to the various business who would use them. You may find that managed cloud service (outsourcing the traditional IT department) may be the best fit.
